Escaping Thanksgiving|Vancouver 2017|Day 2

After going through apps and web search we finally find the restaurant we want to have breakfast in, it’s about a 20 minutes walk from the hotel, not an easy place to find, well, it’s actually right there, we simply walk straight pass it, adding another 10 minutes to it … we really shouldn’t blame the restaurant … lol~

But it was not meant to be, after all the research, I fail to notice that if it is so high up on the recommendation list, it should be packed … and pack it is, the waiting list is about two hours. Wait, did you say two hours? Yes, they have a freaking TWO HOURS wait!!!! Nah, we were hungry, especially after the walk, so we have to find other options …

So once again we have to rely on our instinct again, radar on!

And our radar took us to Jinya~ A ramen noodle place, the noodles itself is alright, I mean it tastes good, but nothing we haven’t try before, but the aura of the place is pretty cool, the interior design is pretty hip, a combination of modern and retro feel, especially love the red brick wall! Overall, a pretty awesome place for breakfast. Well, at this point, I should say brunch. And there’s a surprise in the end!

Dah dah~ This is the surprise, a deep deep philosophy and attitude to life, it’s something that take a lifetime of ups and down and bliss and turmoil to conclude, now at the bottom of your noodle bowl, really something to ponder and stuff for deep thought … and you have to finish your noodle, and soup, I mean you really have to clean the bowl to see it. That in itself has a deep meaning, like, you must get through the hardness and troubles in life to see truth, no? Of course in this case, the things you have to get through to see the truth, is pretty delicious~

After breakfast, while we are gearing up to walk the street die hard style, we heard music, piano playing, live, so naturally, like the mouse follow the flute, thank god it’s not to our death, we went into a pretty cool building, sat down, relax, dream a little dream with the beautiful music echoing through the building and our mind.

I can sit here forever, but not my travel partner, so from then on, it’s basically doing things that every tourist will do, which is walk around downtown, do a little shopping, dance a little dance, well, not that …

Because Christmas is around the corner, the city is pack, super crowded everywhere we go, not the relax and lay back city I remember, I would much rather move on to the less crowded area of the city like and older area of the town or a beach park or something, but I will have to endure, can’t always get what you want and one must sacrifice for the greater good, you have got to be the good soldier, well in this case, I don’t have a choice really, hehe~

After a whole afternoon of responsibility related shopping and mall hopping and being a good boy, I get to visit a very cool part of Vancouver at night, Gastown.

Gastown is a very cool part of Vancouver, it’s kind of between old and new, and it is also kind of between touristy and local. Here you will find some places that are packed with tourist, and some places only see old souls you know that has been here most of their life. Especially cafe, coffee shop, bars, and food joints, you can tell, which one the locals favor, and which one is the new and upcoming tourist favorites.

It’s quite cool to walk around Gastown, especially at night, and in the rain. Yes, it rains a little, drizzle with the breeze, it’s nice, I never minded the rain, especially on a night like this, the reflection under the feet, is another world you can sink in to, you can almost hear it calling your name, from the town past and future~

So dinner we pick The Flying Pig, why you ask? The name of course!! How can you not try a restaurant that named The Flying Pig????  So after I force everybody … I mean after my very very strong insist, we got a table at the restaurant.

The restaurant has a good mix of locals and out of towners, and the food did not disappoint, it was very good, a good mix of traditional and modern American European fusion menus, the only disappointment? They do not have flying pig on the menu, they have ham though, and good ham they have~

The restaurant is super dark, so dark that you can’t read the menu, you have to take the candle by hand and place it right against the menu to read it, making taking photos super super hard, but hey, darkness is meant for intimacy, who cares about me taking photos right?  I would agree, but with how crowded and how high the noise level is in this restaurant, there’s no intimacy here, if you find it, you have got to be so drunk … not a good restaurant to bring a date for sure.

After dinner, we got very lucky that we ran into a shoot for The Man In The High Castle, it was the first time I have ever run in to a movie set, it was very interesting. I should have asked if they need more people for the act, I am ready for my shot at glory~ Me me, put me in~

After that, we walk around the famous waterfront Canada Place convention Center, I didn’t take much photo there because it is getting super super cold … Granted, it was a great place for a walk~

And we end our night with …. ice cream … wait, didn’t I just said it was super cold outside? Yes I did, and guess what? Ice cream are best on cold nights, the colder the better, and apparently, I am not the only person who felt this way, look the line!! There’s a lot of crazy people in this world!!!

It was one of the better tasting gelato we had, soft, creamy, refreshing, how an ice cream should be, highly recommended.

That’s it! That’s day 2!! Wow, I didn’t think we did so many things in one day, but apparently we did … Good day overall, tired, but good~
